A Careful Listening & Observing Dual Diagnosis
We diagnose what co-occurring disorders might be amplifyinga client’s addiction through attentive observation and compassionate listening. Through this active process, a clinically-sound and fully-customized treatment plan is produced. The synthesis of client information into a clinical picture allows us to more effectively treat our clients moving forward. At this point, the clinicians will be able to assist their clients in the modification of addictive behavioral patterns. Finally, clients can reorient their lives around sobriety.
Together, we can deal with these underlying problems, fully-sort out their causes, and explore their consequential nature. By discovering the “why,” we reduce the chances that the client will relapse into a chemically dependent lifestyle.
In addition to Drug and Alcohol Addiction, we are experts in treating:
- Anxiety Disorders (including Adjustment Disorder)
- Bipolar Disorder
- Mood Disorders
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
- Schizoaffective Disorder
- Various Specified Psychiatric Conditions
After Admission Detoxification & Psychiatric Evaluation
Our doctors meet with each client and his/her family to ensure a clinical psychiatric assessment that will include a full panel of the client’s developmental history, traumas, psychological, and neurological symptoms. Aided by this assessment, our clinicians will be able to consider any potentially-undiagnosed psychological features. With the psychiatric evaluation in hand, a complete treatment plan can be actuated to behoove a full-recovery.
During the initial psychiatric assessment, the client will receive medication management. The medication management is meant to catalyze a safe and compassionate detoxification.
Healing Your Relationship with Food through Nutrition Therapy
Our chef provides gourmet meals with each resident’shealth and dietary needs in mind. While at Creative Care, clients can work with a registered dietitian to create a healthy plan focused on nutrition and exercise.
Equine Assisted Psychotherapy
Horses are deeply emotional, intelligent beings. They mirror our inner emotional state; they act out the feelings we consciously try to hide; they reverberate the feelings we unconsciously defend.
With the assistance of horses, the therapist helps the client to identify patterns that inhibit emotional growth. The overall experience connects clients to their authentic selves, in turn fostering the development of emotional intelligence. The work with horses is experiential and even cathartic, triggering an exploration of self-inventory. During this time, clients can learn a full lattice of adaptive qualities; how to surrender, how to trust, and how to successfully set boundaries.
The horses become therapeutic teachers.
As therapeutic teachers, the horses cultivate positive affect, self-confidence, body language and behavior within the clients.
Finally, in this embodiment, the horses enable those with trauma to move from surviving to thriving.
The Physical Practice of Yoga as Therapy
The repetition of exercise and physical play not only improves fitness of the body, but facilitates functioning of the mind. The rapture of addiction involves a full-body numbness that desensitizes and unglues the whole of a human being.
The incorporation of yoga into therapy mirrors our commitment to holistic treatment. We recognize the complete person; body, mind, and spirit. Yoga alongside mindfulness practices can reduce stress, while training the mind to suspend self-criticism and judgment. The client will learn new ways of conceptualizing thoughts and behaviors through the act of contemplation rather than leaning into the darker angels of reactivity and impulsivity.
Expressive Art Therapy
Expressive Art Therapy has emerged on the vanguard of effective therapeutic tools for healing. The road to addiction is paved with emotional pain that gets buried so deep, words cannot reach it. Through the expression of drawing, painting, sculpture, and various other art forms, feelings + thoughts can be accessed and then reflected in the artwork.
In this way, clients are able to articulate the repressed emotional trauma that has fed their addiction for years. Thus, the artistic creation opens a new road toward self-knowledge and recovery, whilst demolishing the traffic towards addiction.
Dual Diagnosis Treatment
When clients first arrive at Creative Care, theyare greeted by a full-team of competent professionals. Within the first 48 hours of admission, each client receives a thorough clinical assessment with Dr. Khaleghi, our founder and innovator who is more affectionately known as Dr. K. In the immediacy of their arrival, clients can also expect counsel from the resident psychiatrist, registered nurses, our clinical director, therapists, and any other conciliatory staff members.
The Creative Care Clinical Treatment Team Meeting takes place twice a week, during which time each client is discussed at length to explore his or her progression and suggest any amendments to their treatment plan based on the evolving clinical picture. While in treatment, clients will traverse through several stages of treatment. Their evolution through the various stages will be specific to each client, but all will be grounded in the Creative Care Clinical philosophy pioneered by Dr. K.
These stages and descriptions are affectionately listed below to help people better understand the treatment process.
Mental Health Treatment
Creative Care’s Mental Health Residential Treatment Program is grateful to call Calabasas home. Creative Care Calabasas is set on a beautifully- wooded, one-acre property in Malibu Canyon. Beneath the treetop canopy of centuries-old oak trees, the intimate setting is ideal for clients struggling with mental health issues. Cast between the Pacific Ocean and the Santa Monica mountains, Creative Care Calabasas’ advanced campus provides the comforts of nature and the reassurance of serenity. Hiking trails through the winding hills and sporting facilities allow clients to slow the mind and reinvigorate the body all at once.
Upon entrance to Creative Care Calabasas, clients are welcomed by a well-trained and empathetic team of treatment professionals. Within the first 48 hours of admission, medical staff and clinicians assess each client. Clients will also meet with Program Director, Dr. Alexandra Edwards. Dr. Edwards, who has been a dedicated member of the Creative Care team since 1997, will not only offer vigilant support, but artful advisement to the full Clinical Treatment Team.
During earliest of treatment hours, each new client will be engaged with the clinical team via a thorough clinical assessment. Additionally, clients will promptly meet with the Creative Care Medical Team that entails a consulting psychiatrist, registered nurses, licensed vocational nurses, therapists, counselors, and other conciliatory staff members.
Under the direction of Dr. Edwards, the Creative Care Clinical Treatment Team meets weekly to take a deep-dive into the portrait and patterns of each client. With regular and frequent whole-team communication, treatment plans are developed under the tutelage of clinical advice.
Staff observation and client involvement create a dynamic clinical scheme with frequent feedback loop encouraged. While in treatment, each client will participate in a ladder of therapeutic programming punctuated by energetic activities number to ensure a comprehensive experience.
