Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and Experiential Learning

Horses are deeply emotional, intelligent beings. They mirror our inner emotional state and act out the feelings we consciously try to hide and the feelings we unconsciously defend. As therapeutic teachers, horses help those with trauma move from surviving to thriving. There is immediacy in being in the presence of these intense and powerful beings. This immediacy enhances present-moment mind-body connection. Our equine therapy program includes both individual and group sessions.

With the assistance of horses the therapist helps the client to identify patterns
that block growth. The overall experience is for clients to connect to their authentic selves and to develop emotional intelligence The work with horses is experiential and cathartic, which can create new neuro-pathways that ease the move into a new way of understanding yourself and others.

The weekly groups use exercises that involve a task to be attempted with the horse. The exercises are presented in a way that encourages self-expression and growth through experiential learning. The horses act as a mirror for behavior that allows for self-analysis and understanding. The program is revolving and includes the exploration of: self-inventory, surrender, trust, self-confidence, setting boundaries, affect, body language and behavior.

Creative Care has selected our horses specifically for Equine Therapy. They are on-site and accessible on a daily basis.
