The Malibu Program
When clients first arrive at Creative Care, they are greeted by a team of caring professionals. Within the first 48 hours of admission, each client receives a thorough clinical assessment, which includes meeting with the founder of Creative Care, fondly known as Dr. K, as well as the consulting psychiatrist, registered nurse, clinical director, therapist, counselor, and others. Our Clinical Treatment Team Meeting takes place twice a week, and each client is discussed in depth in order to adjust their treatment plan according to their progress. While in treatment, clients will be on various stages. These stages and descriptions are listed below, to help people better understand the treatment process.
Detoxification is the highest level of care for people struggling with active Substance Use Disorder. Not all drugs require a detox protocol, but it is best to be assessed by a nurse or doctor. Clients who have been using drugs or alcohol for a long time may need to rid their bodies of the built-up toxins. We use all available methodologies to make certain that the detox process is as comfortable as possible, and that clients feel safe and supported during the transition. In certain circumstances, there are clients who may not have a substance use disorder who still requiring a detox for certain substances. Depending upon the detox protocol, client may be in detox anywhere from 3 days to 2 weeks. During the detoxification stage, a nurse will routinely monitor client’s vitals and medications to ensure a safe detoxification process. Keep in mind that while medication does help many detox symptoms, many clients will still experience tremors, insomnia, nausea, vomiting, hallucinations, anxiety, and even seizures. At Creative Care, our detoxification services are geared to provide the highest level of care to the client, while keeping them safe and comfortable.
At Creative Care no two clients are alike. We pride ourselves on providing very individualized treatment based on each client’s specific needs. Although each client has an individual treatment plan, there are certain things that every client will participate in. Each client will have three hour-long individual sessions with their primary therapist. Clients will also have one individual session with their secondary counselor. Clients will meet with our consulting psychiatrist as needed up to three times per week. Family members will also have a weekly scheduled time to speak to the primary therapist in addition to family therapy when indicated. Creative Care’s family therapy program is unique to each client and family. Family members will work with the client’s therapist to determine their level of involvement, and when appropriate will be invited to individual family therapy sessions as well as groups if indicated for the particular client.
The majority of Creative Care therapists have been with Creative Care for many years. The therapists are highly trained in advanced therapeutic methods and use a wide array of treatment approaches based on the client’s individual needs. At Creative Care, the therapist is involved in every aspect of the client’s treatment experience from individual sessions, family therapy, crisis management, case management, legal issues, and more. At Creative Care the therapist’s goal is to provide the proper diagnostic picture and help clients uncover the deeply hidden causes of their addictions. They will learn coping mechanisms to help them survive stressors without the crutch of self-medicating. Psychological disorders will be addressed, and physical activities will help make the body strong again. Therapies might include:

Once a client is ready to move from a residential level of care, Creative Care provides step-down levels of care. Creative Care believes in continuity of care, and once a client steps down, they will still receive all the same clinical services that they receive in residential care, but if eligible, clients can engage in a range of outside activities including but not limited to the following:
- Employment or volunteer work
- Car or public transportation
- Offsite Passes with approved support people in the recovery community
- Integration into school or classes in the community
If a client wants to transition outside of Creative Care, our aftercare specialist is committed to providing our clients with the support and communication they need to maintain their recovery and prevent relapse. Our aftercare specialist has access to resources all over the country and begins the aftercare planning process at the beginning of a client’s stay, completing a psychosocial assessment and compiling the needs of each client.
